The West Volusia Hospital Authority, often referred to as WVHA, operates as a specialized tax district entrusted with managing a budget of nearly $20 Million. This budget is specifically allocated to bolstering healthcare accessibility for individuals within our community.
The West Volusia Hospital Authority serves a wide range of communities, including Seville, Pierson, Barberville, DeLeon Springs, Glenwood, DeLand, Orange City, Osteen, Lake Helen, Cassadaga, Deltona, DeBary, and Enterprise.
What makes WVHA stand out from other hospital districts in Volusia County, like the Halifax Hospital Authority and the Southeast Volusia Hospital Authority, is its unique governance structure. While other districts rely on taxpayer funds without direct accountability and/or representation, the WVHA has an elected board of commissioners.
This means that those responsible for making critical decisions about healthcare funding and services are chosen by the community through regular elections. This commitment to democratic representation ensures transparency and responsiveness to the community's needs.
Moreover, according to the 2023-2024 WVHA Budget, 86% of the nearly $20 Million budget is reinvested back into the community through various health initiatives and programs, such as Dental Care, Primary Care, and Mental Health Services, among others. This significant reinvestment underscores WVHA's dedication to improving the overall health and well-being of the communities it serves.
